Every year, more than 13 lakh students appear for JEE Mains. Yet only around 1.5 lakh make it to Advanced, and fewer than 17,000 earn a seat at an IIT. The difference is not just how hard you work: it is what you study with. The right resource at the right stage can cut months off your preparation.

This guide covers every category of study material: books, online platforms, YouTube channels, mock tests, and the one resource most students overlook: a good peer network.

Must-Have Books for JEE

Physics

  • H.C. Verma | Concepts of Physics Vol 1 & 2: The gold standard for building conceptual clarity. Every IITian has this on their shelf.
  • D.C. Pandey (Arihant series): Great for topic-wise problem practice across all difficulty levels.
  • I.E. Irodov | Problems in General Physics: Advanced-level problems for JEE Advanced aspirants only. Attempt after completing HCV.
  • NCERT Physics (Class 11 & 12): Non-negotiable. Many direct questions appear in JEE Mains from NCERT.

Chemistry

  • NCERT Chemistry (Class 11 & 12): The most important resource for Inorganic and some Physical Chemistry.
  • O.P. Tandon | Physical Chemistry: Excellent for Mole Concept, Electrochemistry, and Thermodynamics.
  • Narendra Awasthi | Problems in Physical Chemistry: The best problem book for Physical Chemistry.
  • J.D. Lee | Inorganic Chemistry (selective chapters): Useful for deeper conceptual understanding.
  • Solomon & Fryhle | Organic Chemistry: Preferred by many toppers for Organic reaction mechanisms.

Mathematics

  • R.D. Sharma | Mathematics (Class 11 & 12): Foundation-building, especially for concepts.
  • S.L. Loney | Trigonometry & Coordinate Geometry: Essential for mastering these high-weightage topics.
  • Hall & Knight | Higher Algebra: Builds algebra fundamentals needed for JEE Advanced.
  • Arihant (A. Das Gupta) | Problems in Mathematics: A benchmark book for JEE Advanced-level practice.
  • Previous Year JEE Papers (1983–2025): The single most important practice resource. Do every paper at least twice.

Top Online Platforms for JEE

Online platforms have democratised JEE preparation. Students in small towns now access the same quality of teaching as Kota students.

  • Physics Wallah (PW): Most affordable platform with excellent teachers. Alakh Pandey's Physics lectures are outstanding.
  • Unacademy: Large roster of experienced faculty. Good for structured courses and live classes.
  • Vedantu: Interactive live classes with real-time doubt-solving.
  • BYJU's: Comprehensive video lectures, good for conceptual building.
  • Embibe: AI-driven personalised practice with detailed analytics on weak areas.
  • Doubtnut: Instant doubt-solving via photo. Best for quick question resolution.

Best Free YouTube Channels

  • JEEWallah (Alakh Pandey) | Physics: Exceptional clarity with relatable teaching style.
  • Aman Dhattarwal | All subjects + strategy: Great motivational content alongside solid academics.
  • Vedantu JEE | Multi-subject: Good for concept revision and practice sessions.
  • Physics Galaxy | Physics: Dr. Ashish Arora covers advanced Physics topics in depth.
  • @HiteshJEEMentor (YouTube) | JEE strategy + mindset: Honest, student-first advice on preparation strategy, time management, and staying consistent from an IIT Roorkee graduate.

Mock Tests and PYQs

Mock tests are where preparation becomes skill. Most students underestimate this. Solving previous year papers teaches you the actual difficulty, question patterns, and time management: things no textbook can.

Pro Tip

Analyse every mistake in a mock test before moving to the next one. The analysis is more valuable than the test itself. Categorise errors: silly mistakes, concept gaps, or exam pressure.

  • NTA Official Practice Platform: Free mock tests in the exact JEE Mains interface.
  • Allen Test Series: One of the most accurate predictors of JEE rank.
  • Resonance Test Series: Trusted by thousands of Kota students.
  • FIITJEE Grand Masters: Excellent for JEE Advanced-level problem exposure.
  • JEE PYQs (All Years): Solve the last 15–20 years of questions chapter by chapter.

The Overlooked Resource: A Study Partner

Research consistently shows that students who study with peers who have complementary strengths outperform those who study alone. A peer who is strong in Maths can help you debug your approach, while you help them with Chemistry: in the same hour you would have otherwise spent stuck on the same problem.

Peerzy is built specifically for this. You browse a feed of all student profiles, each showing their strong and weak subjects. If you are weak in Organic Chemistry, find students who list it as a strength, review their profile, and send a connection request. Once accepted, you chat in real time.

How to Use These Resources Effectively

  1. Start with NCERT for all three subjects. Build the foundation before jumping to advanced books.
  2. One book per topic. Avoid book-hopping. Master one resource before picking another.
  3. Maintain a revision notebook of every formula, reaction, and theorem you encounter.
  4. Weekly full-length mock tests from Month 3 onwards. Treat them as real exams.
  5. Spend 30 minutes daily with a study peer. Teach what you know; learn what you don't.
